The biggest interior trends of 2019

It’s a new year. You’ve signed up to the gym, bought a Nutribullet, a new diary and a load of Tupperware boxes… so what’s next?

In the January spirit of improvement, we suggest adding “interior upgrades” to your to-do list. Giving your space a revamp can do wonders for your mood, making being at home something you’ll really look forward to. Perfect if you’re also jumping on the booze-free train this month…

So here are 2019’s hottest interior trends, to give you some redecorating inspo.

1. Jewel tones

Jewel tones are always popular, but in 2019 it’s all about using them subtly to give clever colour pops. Look out for rich ruby, deep plum, vibrant mustard and intense emerald shades, and use them to bring life to tired rooms. Cushions, blankets, wall art and coloured candles are all subtle ways to nod to the trend.

2. Floral fabrics

In the immortal words of Miranda Priestly: “Florals? Groundbreaking…”
But before you skip to the next trend, hear us out. Whether abstract or traditionally ditsy, flower-adorned patterns will never go out of style. They’re particularly great in fabric form, so look out for petal prints and use them to breathe life into minimalist rooms.

3. Sustainable pieces

Unsurprisingly, sustainable materials look to be more popular than ever in 2019 – with a focus on a handmade vibe. This means things like clay plates, bowls and mugs, or baskets and rugs made from jute.

4. Velvet furniture

Is there anything more plush than fuzzy, soft velvet?! Expect to see this sumptuous fabric everywhere this year, adorning everything from sofas to headboards. Want a smaller, cheaper way in on the trend? Nab a pouffe or some velvet cushions – in jewel colours for bonus style points.

5. Home bars

Bar trolleys were big news in 2018, and they’re not going anywhere this year either… Essentially all you need to get your hands on is a trolley with a few shelves, then just fill it with spirits and cocktail-making essentials – IKEA do a bargain £50 trolley in plenty of colours, but if you’re serious about booze, opt for Oliver Bonas’ luxurious gold and marble creation. And fear not Dry January warriors – you’ve got a whole month to make yours look totally Instagrammable…

6. Four poster beds

In the market for a new bed? This year make it a four poster. It’s a bedroom statement that doesn’t just look amazing, but provides a cosy AF sleeping space too – it’ll almost feel like you’re in a cocoon. Four posters don’t usually come cheap, so do your browsing and get ready for some complicated bed assembling!
