At SpareRoom we’ve been running Live Rent Free for 14 years – giving renters in the UK an opportunity to get their name pulled in a prize draw to get their rent paid for a month. But this September, we’re giving you the chance to win your rent for a whole year.

To date, we’ve given away a whopping £168,097.53 to our lucky winners. This has been a life-changing amount of money for many, which is what helped us realise we could help more people too.

In 2018 we launched our partnership with Crisis, supporting their work to help end homelessness across Britain. We decided to match every Live Rent Free prize amount from then onwards and donate the same amount to the charity – including our huge annual prize which is opening again from September 1st 2024 (details below).

So far we’ve matched £92,647.65 in donations to Crisis, helping fund their year-round services, providing vital support so that people can rebuild their lives, and are supported out of homelessness for good.

Kelly Holliday, Partnership Engagement Lead at Crisis, says: *“Everyone should have a place to call home, but sadly the number of households facing homelessness in England has reached a record high. Increased living costs, rising rents and a lack of affordable housing is pushing more and more people into homelessness or even worse rough sleeping.

We have seen a stark increase in people accessing our services, which is directly related to the cost-of-living crisis, the shortage of social housing and statutory services being overwhelmed with people asking for homelessness support. Nevertheless, we know that homelessness is not inevitable, but we rely on the help of people, community groups and corporate partners like SpareRoom. Therefore, we are pleased to be supported by SpareRoom through their annual “Live Rent Free” prize draw for the past years.

Thanks to supporters like SpareRoom we can continue to work with hundreds of people to end their homelessness through housing and employment advice, wellbeing sessions and training opportunities. All of the money raised through the partnership with SpareRoom is unrestricted and supports Crisis all year round services at our 9 centres across the country.

From the 1st - 31st September at midday, our Live Rent Free Prize Draw is open to any UK renter over the age of 18 and pay for the lucky winner’s rent for a whole year! To enter, all you need to do is follow THIS link (T&C’s apply).

The best part about Live Rent Free is that we always match our prize money in a donation to Crisis. If you win your month's rent in prize money, you’ll also be helping us make a donation to help end homelessness - sounds like a win-win to us!
