Landlord confidence in the rental market hits new low
Just a couple of weeks ago, we asked if you were confident in the rental market, only 19% of you said yes, while a significant 81% voted no.
We've asked this question several times over the years, but we've never seen such high levels of doubt from landlords before. The graph below shows how landlord confidence has changed from 2021 to now, with a sharp decline since December 2023, when confidence was at 54%.
We then asked you whether you believe the new government's housing policies will improve the rental market and although 14% of you thought it was too early to tell, 79% of you answered no.
So, with Labour's plans for more stringent regulations, including rent controls and the abolition of Section 21 'no fault' evictions, it's clear that many landlords are feeling increasingly uncertain.
